In a crowded city, motor cycle stays like gold…
Over the age of 80, he is an undisputed lover of motorcycles and, according to him, he has spared no effort to raise the position of this device.
He has begun his relationship with the device since he was about 15 years old, and according to many colleagues and friends, he has devoted all his life to the vehicle. He is currently the chairman and speaker of the only independent motorcycle association in Iran, the owner and manager of the only specialized publication in the field of motorcycles and consultation of many activists in the field of motorcycle industry. In addition to writing and compilation, he is a creative man and has written many poems about motorcycle and various social issues.
His name is Farhad Esfandiari and his career history is as expressed. For a few minutes, we sat down to his sweet memories and words, and under this pretext we took a brief look at the past and present situation of the motorcycle industry.
Mr. Esfandiari, please start by talking about the time and manner of your acquaintance with motorcycles and degrees in this field:
At the age of 15, I started working as a bicycle apprentice. At the age of 17, I started riding a motorcycle professionally and at the same time worked in a motorcycle repair shop. At the same time, I rented 5 horsepower Ariel motorcycles, and at the age of 18, I studied with almost all the three-gun motorcycle manufacturers, (BSA) in Tehran and I had a complete knowledge of all heavy motorcycles such as Machels, Norton, Triumph and Royal Anfield.
In 1953, with regard to the prosperity of cinemas and the popular reception of it, due to my great mastery in motorcycling, I turned to the filmmaking profession. In early 1957, I was finally able to establish my motorcycle shop on Bouzarjomehri Street after obtaining a permit from the municipality and two years later, by acquiring another shop, I added the sale of motorcycles to my activities.
During these years, I had become a well-known person in the field of motorcycles and had been consulted by many industrialists, merchants, and motorcyclists. Due to this popularity, I have been sent to Germany by Tehran police and I learned theoretical and practical principles related to traffic and accidents. On my return from Germany, I held a speed motorcycle race on the tracks of Qala-e-Marghi and Qom Road, which ended with my own championship. Meanwhile, during these years, with my motorcycle trail, I traveled through many impassable and brushed areas of Iran, such as Tochal, Kalak Chal, Imamzadeh Davood, Tar Lake, Kuhistan Sehzar, Gordeneh Turk Bashm, Lal Bash and Dizin Gajreh.
In 1971, I decided to make a written transfer of my experiences on a motorcycle, and in the same year it published the first professional paper on a motorcycle industry in the country, which has continued to be published after about 40 years, despite all financial and technical problems. And in 1991, in order to complete his previous activities, I established and launched the Independent Motorcycle Association of Iran as a reference to respond to those interested and active in this industry.
Now, according to the records you cited, evaluate your assessment of the current position of the motorcycle industry in Iran:
Nowadays, motorcycle is considered as the main arteries of production and economy due to the significant market demand and the significant presence of more than one hundred manufacturing companies in the context and its margins.
In spite of all the criticisms, the motorcycle is a tool that fits the real needs of the society, helping to reduce traffic, speeding up service and social affairs, creating jobs, facilitating traffic and daily affairs, reducing economic costs, and so on. Today, life, regardless of the role of the motorcycle, is unimaginable and difficult, and even complex.
My insistence on this is not apart from the realities present in society, You should remember that in case of any security problem, it is the 110 police who come to the scene by motorbike, summoning and notifying the court, letters and postal items, Likewise, it is impossible to expedite the delivery of orders for food and meals without considering the role of the motorcycle. How can your newspaper be received at work or at home? Is it possible to send financial documents, checks, drafts and promissory notes to banking and financial centers with any other means other than motor? In the meantime, have you thought about an important affair such as the issue of mass employment of this device?
In your opinion, what is the position of the quality level of domestic products and what are the significant differences in comparison with imported and foreign products?
Although we are far behind European products, but fortunately there is a considerable progress in domestic production, even in a course by the same Niro Moharakeh Company, we were able to produce the engine with the best quality, local and domestic, which is still remembered as a good and proud memory for many sympathizers of this industry. But as you know, due to economic considerations, the possibility of continuing this trend was lapsed, but domestic craftsmen are now producing many parts of the body with the best shape and quality compared to foreign models, and in this regard they have a lot to say. Chassis, exhaust, tank, steering wheel, stirrup, wheel hub, torque, tires, and battery are among the parts which are produced in the best way in the country in terms of quality.
According to your extensive experience and knowledge,in the current situation, what kind of products do you evaluate in the Iranian motorcycle market?
In conversations with colleagues, I have repeatedly emphasized that in the Iranian motorcycle market, the vacant space of street or city motorcycles, some luxury motorcycles, and especially work motorcycles, is strongly felt.
Trail motorcycles, which are produced and supplied these days in different kinds and models, is not a city and work motorcycle. Facilities within cities are susceptible to use of street motorcycles, not trail motorcycles, and the like. On the other hand, after the ban on the production of two-stroke motorcycles and the withdrawal of Vespa and Bravo production from the production circle of Niro Moharkeh Company, unfortunately, this company and even other competitors have not taken any serious action to replace these products. While there are many applicants for these motorcycles and due to not meeting the needs, they turn to other products.
I would like to take this opportunity and please Niro Moharakeh as one of the effective currents in the market and the main producer of these products in Iran, Given the market demand and the significant vacuum that is felt in the lack of these motorcycles, to revive the production and sale of Vespa and Bravo motorcycles, of course, in accordance with the new rules.
And electric motorcycles?…
Currently, the use of electric motorcycles at the country has not been possible due to numerous technical and economic reasons and it is better for those in charge of this matter to use the expected power and budgets provided for this issue in the service of improving the quality of existing products.
Motorcyclists have many complaints about the severity of the law enforcement officers and traffic police in the city traffic, what is your opinion in this regard and complaints?
My motorcyclist friends must pay attention to the fact that law enforcement is ultimately better than lawlessness, these severities will certainly benefit all citizens and it should be noted that one of the ways to building trust in all segments of society and citizens to the category of motorcycles is by observing the regulations and adhering to the rules by motorcycle owners.
Your Excellency, you have been familiar with the Niro Moharkeh company complex for many years. What do you think about its current function?
The fact of the matter is that the Niro Moharakeh owe so much to the Iranian motorcycle industry. The Niro Moharakeh is one of the rooted companies in this market and has always had positive features such as innovation, personnel and technical experts. As a mentor and clear-sighted person in the field of this industry, I ask the managers of this company to use the great capacities of the consumer market in Iran and to devote more power, capital and tools to the production of motorcycles.
In short, I say that in the Iranian motorcycle market, the expectation from the driving force is very high, in this vacuum market the presence of many products that the Niro Moharakeh is responsible for their production and supply,is still felt.
And at the end, a new poem …
In a crowded city, motorcycle stays golden
The need for a motorcycle is always greater
Every moment that you are ready, for you
It remains the best travel companion for you
